Inspired by the rainforest surrounding the Mossman River in Far North Queensland, this work explores the richness, depth, and living movement of that environment. Time spent near the river revealed a landscape of constant interplay — filtered light, dense foliage, flowing water, and shifting shadow. Indigo and yellow became central to the palette, reflecting deep shade alongside the warmth of light breaking through leaves and across the water’s surface.
The painting developed through experimentation with colour, brushwork, and the interaction of water on paper, allowing pigment to move and merge with the use of water. These fluid processes echo the rainforest itself — layered, alive, and interconnected. Rather than describing a single view, the piece holds an impression of immersion: the feeling of standing within a place where water, growth, and light exist in continuous conversation.
