Turtle Season Magic

The ocean environment of sea turtles forms the heart of this painting. The beginning of turtle season is always a moving time to witness — these ancient creatures leaving the safety of the sea to make their slow journey ashore to nest. Watching this passage, with all its effort and vulnerability, brings a quiet awareness of the risks they take in coming ashore to lay their eggs.

Painted in loose, flowing layers, the work reflects the shifting light, the surf, and turtle tracks that frame this moment. Colour and movement were allowed to settle gradually, echoing the cycle of departure and return. There is a sense here of life continuing through instinct and time — a process so remarkable it can feel like a small miracle of nature.
